Rs 100 crore black money found in Medical Test Centers in Bengaluru

The Income-tax officials cracked down a nexus between the medical test centres and doctors. The IT sleuths recovered nearly Rs 1.4 in cash and 3.5 kg of jewellery and bullion during the raids on few diagnostic centres and IVF Clinics.
‘During our searches, we found out that referral doctors receive as much as 35% for MRI scans and 20% for CT Scans and other tests performed at the diagnostic centre. Interestingly, the diagnostic centres disguised these payments as marketing expenses in their audit books,’ said IT officials who carried out the raids.
The nexus between medical test centres and doctors is long-known and existing. Many diagnostic centres also employ commission agents who the key in the whole transaction. These agents deliver the payments to doctors in an envelope along with the details of the referred patients, their bill and other details.
While the search resulted in unearthing undisclosed amount close to Rs 100 crore, the referral amount in case of a particular lab was Rs 200 crores. These discoveries not only expose the links between doctors and diagnostic centres in the medicalmafia but also shed light on new areas of black money havens within the society.
