A big fire boom happened in Liberia this week, killing more than 40 people and hurting at least 83 others. This sad accident happened in a town called Totota when a leaking fuel truck exploded. Many people were trying to collect the leaking fuel when the blast happened.
So many people were burned badly, their bodies couldn’t be recognized. They had to bury them in a big grave together. The government doesn’t even know the exact number of people who died because the fire was so bad.
The Vice President of Liberia went to the funeral and said, “We never thought this would happen at the beginning of the new year.”
Doctors are worried that more people might be hurt because some might not have gone to the hospital yet. They are asking the government to send special teams to help with emergencies in every part of the country.
Doctors are also begging people not to go near fuel tankers when they see them leaking. This is not the first time such a bad accident has happened in Africa, and it’s important to listen to the police and stay away from danger.
