After Sai Dharam Tej, will it be Varun Tej’s flop show?

After starting a career with a disappointing film like ‘Mukunda’, and scoring a hit with ‘Kanche’, Varun Tej was a sure watch out in Tollywood. But post that, his film Loafer and Mister bombed at the box-office, leaving the mega hero far behind his counterparts. But he bounced back with a blockbuster like Fidaa and his recent hit Tholiprema.
Though Fidaa collected Rs 50 crores at the box office, the film’s success is greatly due to the efforts of director Sekhar Kammula, producer Dil Raju, heroine Sai Pallavi along with Varun Tej. The trade analysts predicted that Varun Tej’s market is limited to Rs 20 crores at the box office. Shocking everyone, and turning the tables, Varun Tej’s Tholiprema collected a whopping Rs 40 crores proving the hero’s stamina at the box office.
Given his back to back hits, ‘Ghazi’ fame Sankalp Reddy is coming with a space-themed film with Varun Tej. The sci-fi film production cost is estimated to be around Rs 40 crores. Though Varun Tej has a proven market, it would be risky to produce a film on such a massive scale with the upcoming hero.
Before Varun Tej takes up such big budget films, he needs to establish a strong market at the box office. If the upcoming film fails at the box-office, the hero might well be along the lines of Sai Dharam Tej, who is currently having a horrid run.
