Salary hiked by 333% & List of Allowances enjoyed by MPs

The 2018 – 2019 Budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley saw a steep increase in salaries to the President and Vice President of India. With President’s salary hiked by 333%, the President would receive Rs. 5 lakhs, instead of the current Rs. 1.5 Lakh from hereon. Similarly, the salary of Vice President will jump to Rs. 4.5 Lakhs from Rs. 1.25 lakhs currently. Besides these, the MPs salary will also be revised once in every five years, in relation to the inflation.
The state governors will be paid Rs. 3.5 Lakhs from here onwards. At a time when the citizens of the nation are suffering from poverty, the MPs are enjoying the perks from the Centre.
Besides the Rs. 50,000 basic pay the MPs receive monthly, Rs.3 lakhs (per month) end as expenditure on every MP on an average.
Following are the various allowances enjoyed by the MPs:
- Daily Allowance – Rs. 2000 (each day of residence on duty)
- Office Expense Allowance – Rs. 45,000
- Constituency Allowance – Rs. 45,000
- Travel Allowance
- Air Travel – 1 ¼ of fare of the airlines
- Train – Free First Class AC / Executive Class Ticket
- Road – Rs. 16/Km
- Accommodation – Free Suite
- Telephone – 1,50,000 Free Local/STD Calls Annually
- Water – 40,00,000 Litres
- Electricity – 50,000 Units
