Sekhar Kammula: “I Used to Get Very Tense About That Hero”
Director Sekhar Kammula has a special place in Telugu cinema, known for his unique ability to create small-budget films that deeply connect with audiences. His memorable works like Happy Days, Love Story, and Leader have all been hits that touched hearts.
Now, Sekhar Kammula is set to work his magic again with the upcoming film Kubera, starring Kollywood superstar Dhanush alongside Nagarjuna and Rashmika Mandanna. Scheduled for a worldwide release on June 20, the film has already generated massive hype through its posters, teaser, and trailer.
During recent promotions, Sekhar Kammula opened up about working with Dhanush. Since Dhanush is also a director himself, Sekhar admitted he felt quite tense about directing him. He was worried that if he asked for another take or made suggestions, it might create some tension on set.
However, Sekhar praised Dhanush for his professionalism, noting that he completed many scenes in a single take. Besides directing and acting, Dhanush also shines as a singer and lyricist, showcasing his versatile talents.
Sekhar also shared his excitement about working with Nagarjuna for the first time and how their familiarity made the shoot smooth. Another actor, Jim Sharba, surprised everyone by fluently delivering his lines in Telugu and Tamil, despite English being his primary language.
The director revealed that each actor was chosen carefully to fit the story’s demands. He feels fortunate to have developed the story of Kubera, which revolves around Mumbai and is made with a substantial budget to match its scale.
Fans eagerly await the film’s release on June 20, expecting another unforgettable cinematic experience from Sekhar Kammula.
