Shafali, Poonam star as India down Bangladesh

Date:

India took a step closer to the 2020 T20 World Cup semifinal qualification courtesy a comfortable 18-run victory over Bangladesh on Monday. Propelled to 142 for 6 by a typical Shafali Verma start, a solid Jemimah Rodrigues hand and a much-needed Veda Krishnamurthy cameo towards the end, the bowlers then stepped up in the second half to add two more points to their tally. Poonam Yadav and Shikha Pandey again played the starring role, stretching their tournament total to seven and five wickets in two outings respectively while Arundhati Reddy chipped in with two too.

Brief scores: India 142/6 in 20 overs (Shafali Verma 39, Jemimah Rodrigues 34; Salma Khatun 2-25, Panna Ghosh 2-25) beat Bangladesh 124/8 in 20 overs (Nigar Sultana 35, Murshida Khan 30; Poonam Yadav 3-18, Shikha Pandey 2-14) by 18 runs.
