Andhra Pradesh Congress leader YS Sharmila visited her cousin Y.S. Sunitha Reddy on Monday, sparking speculation about Sunitha Reddy joining the Congress party.
On her first visit to her home district YSR Kadapa since becoming the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Sharmila had a two-hour meeting with Sunitha Reddy. The discussion covered various topics.
Sunitha Reddy is the daughter of former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, who was tragically murdered a few weeks before the 2019 elections. She has been fighting for justice in the case, where some family members are also named as accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The meeting gains significance amid reports that Sunitha Reddy is interested in joining the Congress party. She is said to be planning a political move against the relatives accused in her father’s murder case.
Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy of YSRCP and his father Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy were named as accused in the case. Bhaskar Reddy was recently released on bail, but Sunitha has challenged the bail in the Supreme Court.
Sharmila had previously stated that Vivekananda Reddy was not murdered for his property, as he had already transferred the entire property to his daughter.
Vivekananda Reddy, brother of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was murdered in Pulivendula on March 15, 2019, a few weeks before the elections. The CBI claims there was a conspiracy to kill him as he opposed YSRCP fielding Avinash Reddy from the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.
The CBI court in Hyderabad adjourned the hearing in Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case to February 8. Avinash Reddy, Bhaskar Reddy, and five other accused appeared before the court on Monday.
