PV Sindhu faced a defeat in the quarterfinals against China’s Gao Fang Jie.

Lakshya Sen defeated fellow Indian player S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian in the quarterfinals with a score of 21-10, 21-17. Sen, the Commonwealth Games 2022 champion, dominated the match and secured victory in 38 minutes. He will now face China’s Li Shi Feng, the reigning All-England champion and world No. 7, in the semifinals. Interestingly, Sen defeated Li Shi Feng in the Canada Open final last week and holds a 5-3 head-to-head record against the Chinese player.

On the other hand, PV Sindhu faced a defeat in the quarterfinals against China’s Gao Fang Jie. The Indian player lost with a score of 20-22, 13-21. Sindhu struggled to catch up to Gao Fang Jie in the first game and despite leveling the scores at 20-all, she couldn’t secure the lead. In the second game, Gao Fang Jie took a substantial lead after a closely-fought early stage, eventually winning the match in 49 minutes. This marked Sindhu’s fourth loss to Gao Fang Jie out of their five head-to-head meetings.
