Sonu Sood’s statement follows the recent criticism faced by cricketer Hardik Pandya, who took over the captaincy for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 season, succeeding former captain Rohit Sharma. Pandya has encountered severe backlash and even faced booing from spectators during matches.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sonu emphasized the importance of respecting players who represent the country, regardless of the team they play for or their role on the field. He stressed that it is the fans’ responsibility to uplift and encourage athletes, rather than bringing them down.
After Pandya led Mumbai Indians to a loss in their second match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sonu’s message serves as a reminder of the significance of supporting all players, irrespective of the outcomes.
We should respect our players. Players who made us proud, players who made our country proud. One day you cheer for them, next day you boo them.
