A long-standing legal dispute over a Chennai property associated with late actress Sridevi has reached the Supreme Court. The court has issued notices to filmmaker Boney Kapoor and his daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, in connection with the case.
The dispute revolves around a 2.7-acre property located on Chennai’s East Coast Road, which Sridevi and her family reportedly purchased in 1988. Two siblings have challenged the sale deed, claiming that the land was part of their ancestral property and that their inheritance rights were ignored during the transaction.
Earlier, the Madras High Court dismissed their petition, citing the significant delay in filing the case and describing the plea as vexatious. Following the dismissal, the petitioners moved the Supreme Court, which is now considering the matter.
During the proceedings, the Supreme Court directed all parties to maintain the status quo concerning the property’s possession, transfer, and construction activities. This order is intended to prevent changes to the property’s existing situation while the legal proceedings continue.
The court has also encouraged both sides to consider resolving the dispute through mediation before the next hearing, scheduled for December.
The case will continue through the legal process unless the parties reach a mutually acceptable settlement through mediation. Further developments are expected as the Supreme Court examines the claims and arguments presented by both sides.
