Students stand in solidarity with RTC agitators in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In support of the RTC employees strike, Osmania University students Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders which included SFI, AISF and PDSU on Thursday pitched to Pragathi Bhavan gherao, but the OU police thwarted their actions by taking the students into custody at varsity. On other side, government effigy was burnt at Narayanguda Junction under the aegis of the All India Students Federation (AISF) Hyderabad district committee to protest the government’s reckless attitude towards the RTC workers strike.

In view of Osmania University students call to protest at Pragathi Bhavan in support of RTC employees stir, East Zone police made heavy security arrangements at the OU campus premises. Police closed all the entry points to the campus from Tarnaka and Vidyanagar and allowing only the OU students into the campus. However, student leaders started their plan at 12 noon amid tight police vigilance, within minutes police arrested the protesters and shifted them to the OU police station. According to police, so far, 14 members belonging to the students’ unions were arrested as they did not secure permission from the police. All the arrested people were released in the evening.
