Superman OTT Release: James Gunn Confirms Streaming Date for 2025 Superhero Blockbuster
In a surprise announcement, director James Gunn has revealed that his 2025 superhero epic, Superman, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, will be available for streaming from August 15, 2025.
Taking to social media, Gunn wrote:
“Superman is coming to your homes this Friday, 8/15. Available for pre-order. Or catch it while it’s still in theatres.”
According to The Wrap, Superman will stream on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. For collectors, physical editions in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will hit shelves on September 23.
Released on July 11, the film has grossed $581 million worldwide, with $332 million coming from the USA and Canada, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2025. However, its performance in international markets fell short of projections.
The early OTT release has triggered backlash from fans, who believe it could hurt the movie’s theatrical run. One netizen expressed frustration:
“Why so early?! Shameful and stupid decision. Superman is still running strong in theatres and had so much box office potential left. Stuff like this damages theatre-going culture.”
Whether this move will impact Superman’s long-term box office performance remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — audiences now have the choice to watch the Man of Steel both on the big screen and at home.
