In a surprising development that’s left fans disheartened, the ambitious Tamil period drama Vaadivaasal, starring National Award-winning actor Suriya, is rumored to have been shelved.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran, the film was touted to be a rural epic centered around Jallikattu, Tamil Nadu’s traditional bull-taming sport. Suriya was set to portray a powerful dual role—a father and son—promising a layered, performance-driven narrative.
Despite being in pre-production for over three years, sources reveal that the delay in finalizing a bound script has led to Suriya backing out of the project. The latest buzz suggests that even with a stellar team, including GV Prakash Kumar as composer and Kalaipuli S Thanu as producer, the project could not proceed.
Earlier reports had hinted at a shoot beginning later this year with a Pongal 2026 release. However, the current speculation about its cancellation has stirred mixed emotions across Kollywood.
