Prannoy advances to the quarterfinals of the Taipei Open in badminton.
India had a mixed performance at the Taipei Open 2023, as H.S. Prannoy advanced to the quarterfinals in men’s singles, while Parupalli Kashyap and the mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy were eliminated in the second round. Prannoy secured a victory over Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto with a score of 21-9, 21-17 in 36 minutes. On the other hand, Kashyap suffered a defeat against Li Yang Su of Chinese Taipei, losing with a score of 21-16, 21-17. In the mixed doubles event, Kapoor and Reddy were defeated by the local pair of Hsiang Chien Chiu and Xiao Min Lin, with a score of 21-13, 21-18 in just 29 minutes.
During Prannoy’s match against Sugiarto, he took an early lead and maintained it throughout the first game, eventually winning it 21-9. In the second game, Sugiarto started strong but Prannoy managed to stage a comeback, winning four consecutive points from 17-17 and securing a 21-17 victory to move into the quarterfinals.
Kashyap initially had a close battle against Li Yang Su, but his opponent managed to establish a lead and win the first game 21-16. In the second game, Kashyap fought hard to catch up but couldn’t maintain the momentum, eventually losing 21-17. As a result, Li Yang Su advanced to the quarterfinals.
Despite the loss, Prannoy’s advancement to the quarterfinals provides a positive outcome for India at the Taipei Open 2023, while Kashyap and the mixed doubles pair were unable to progress further in the tournament.
