Tamim Iqbal could miss part of India tour

Date:

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal may miss some parts of the forthcoming tour of India due to personal reasons. a news agency understands that Tamim has intimated the Bangladesh Cricket Board about his partial unavailability as he wishes to be beside his wife who is expecting a second child.

According to sources, Tamim is expected to receive test results of his wife’s health shortly and will decide his course of action accordingly. It was learned that Tamim could also join the team from the start of the series if the tests are positive. Alternatively, he will join the team after spending time with his wife in Bangkok.

Bangladesh team management is keeping Imrul Kayes as his back-up and requested him not to join the next edition National Cricket League that is expected to start from Saturday. “We haven’t decided anything as yet in this regard [about giving permission to Tamim],” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told a news agency on Thursday (October 24). “Give us some time we still have few more days to think,” he said.

Tamim, the seasoned opener, took rest during the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan and the T20I tri-nation rubber citing fatigue following a rough run of form during the World Cup. He prepared for the season by playing in the opening phase of the National Cricket League.

Tamim had a below-par outing in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, where he accumulated only 21 runs. He also couldn’t make an impact in the World Cup, scoring just one fifty and ended up with 235 runs from eight innings at an average of 29.37.
Bangladesh will play three Twenty20 internationals and two Test matches on their tour of India, scheduled from November 3-26.
