Samsung faces serious competitor

Samsung’s new competitor in Google

Samsung has been dominating the global foldable smartphone market for a few years now, but it is facing a new competitor in Google, which unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold, during its annual developer conference.

The phone is available for pre-order and will be shipped next month. One of the main selling points of the $1,799 Pixel Fold is its slimmer design compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, with a thickness of 12.1mm versus 15.8mm. The Pixel Fold also has a larger battery than Samsung’s phone, with 4,821 mAh compared to 4,400 mAh, making it slightly heavier at 283 grams compared to 263 grams for Samsung.

Despite facing tougher competition, Samsung sees more competition as a positive for the foldable segment, as it can lead to a bigger and more creative ecosystem and wider market adoption. For its first foldable phone, Google optimized over 50 of its applications for the Pixel Fold’s larger display and promised to continue doing so to encourage other app developers to follow suit.

Its goal is to increase the proportion of foldable phones to half of its total smartphone sales by 2025, making them another pillar of the company alongside the Galaxy S flagship series and a key category in the premium segment. According to market researcher Canalys, Samsung accounted for about 77 percent of foldable phone shipments worldwide last year.

It believes that a successful foldable phone requires two core elements: a flexible and foldable display and a strong hinge for folding and unfolding operations. During a press briefing in Berlin, Choi Won-Joon, the former head of the flagship product R&D team at Samsung’s mobile experience division, explained that foldable phones should offer unique and valuable experiences to users that they cannot get from other smartphones. To achieve this, it developed a new hinge system called a spiral hinge, after many failed attempts.

Google’s hinge system allows the two screen halves to fold completely without any gap, and it is made of durable stainless steel. The International Data Corporation (IDC) predicted that foldable phone shipments will reach 21.4 million units in 2023, a 50% increase from the previous year, and the foldable market will grow by 50.5%, while the total smartphone market will contract by 1.1%. Samsung has not yet announced the release date for the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Realme narzo N series is set to offer top-notch

Global technology brand realme is geared up to unveil its slimmest smartphone ever, designed to provide users with an unrivaled experience, on Amazon. According to sources, the new device in narzo N series is set to offer top-notch performance and features at a competitive price point, addressing next-gen users’ demands for a trendy and fresh design.

narzo’s new smartphone’s slimness is a big deal for realme. Fitting in best in class features in such a slim body can be quite challenging and it makes us wonder how realme achieved this. Firstly, the battery’s thickness is 4.44mm, which is 0.25mm thinner than the existing 33W battery of 4.69mm. The screen size of 6.745 inches allows for the length and width of the battery to be enlarged, making it thinner. Secondly, the main board’s high density and extreme design help to shorten its length, thus lengthening the battery’s length and reducing its thickness.

narzo’s new smartphone

Additionally, the thickness of the screen cover is only 0.68mm, which is 0.1mm thinner than the 0.78mm cover of the conventional project. The heat dissipation graphite sheet has been removed from the front shell and replaced with high-conductivity aluminum alloy. This change reduces the thickness of the graphite sheet to 0.07mm while solving the heat dissipation problem.

Lastly, the use of high-strength aluminum alloy helps reduce the gap between the screen and the battery by 0.05mm. Smartphone users today prefer sleek and slim devices that are not only lightweight but also fit comfortably in their pockets. The demand for such devices has grown exponentially in recent years as they provide a stylish and modern look, while being easy to carry around.

Over the years, realme narzo series has emerged as a preferred choice amongst Next-Gen users who seek powerful and innovative devices. With a rapidly growing user base of 12.3M in India, the narzo series continues to push boundaries to cater to the dynamic demands of young, tech-savvy users.

realme’s narzo N series has revolutionised the entry-level smartphone market by offering unparalleled features in charging, storage, design, and quality. The series has already garnered a loyal fan following, owing to narzo N55 advanced features, sleek design that redefines prism aesthetics, and impressive performance.

To further enhance the user experience, realme is set to launch narzo N53, which represents the pinnacle of slimness and powerful performance, and is sure to amaze users. Overall, the narzo series has become a game-changer in the entry-level smartphone market, and the new addition to the series is set to take it to new heights. realme’s focus on delivering powerful and affordable devices that cater to the needs of young consumers is sure to continue to win hearts and minds.

According to sources, the new smartphone is definitely a milestone in the smartphone industry, as it pushes the boundaries of what is possible in terms of design and technology. Its right-angle bezel design and slimness will make it a standout choice for users who value style and functionality. With the launch of the latest addition to the series, customers have reasons to be excited. The smartphone will be available on Amazon.

The privacy-centered browser Ulaa (which means journey or voyage in Tamil) is equipped with features that allow for privacy customization, built-in user profile modes, and integrated productivity tools while keeping user data safe and private.

Users can also sync browsing sessions between devices – either an entire browser window or a singular tab – allowing them to use multiple devices for the same browsing session seamlessly, the company said in a statement.

“With Ulaa, users don’t have to compromise their privacy to browse the web, which unfortunately has become a surveillance minefield. Ulaa doesn’t track or share user data with any third parties.

Ulaa also disables the API that allows websites to connect and communicate with devices connected to the computer or wifi network.

It’s also integrated with apps that boost productivity, including Zia Search for existing users, and Zoho Notebook, a dedicated note-taking space that works across all tabs.

Ulaa includes Zoho Annotator, a new, free extension that enables annotations directly to web pages and images. All Chrome browser extensions are compatible with Ulaa, and can be directly installed from the Chrome Webstore, said the company.

The iOS and Android versions are currently in beta and available for download.

Google has paid the penalty amount of Rs 1,337.76 crore

30-day penalty payment deadline

Google has paid the penalty amount of Rs 1,337.76 crore that was imposed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for allegedly exploiting its dominant position in the Android market. This is the first instance of a Big Tech company paying a heavy penalty to Indian regulators as the government aims to introduce an inclusive Digital India Act (DIA).

30-day deadline given by the NCLAT.

According to reliable sources, the payment was made within the 30-day deadline given by the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) in its order, and it has been deposited in the Consolidated Fund of India. Dr. Ritesh Malik, Director of Alliance for Digital India Foundation (ADIF), said that tech giants consider the fines as a “cost of doing business” and prefer to pay them instead of making the ecosystem fairer and non-discriminative. Malik added that while Google has paid the penalty, the paramount concern is whether the company is complying with the CCI rulings in letter and spirit.

Google has paid a penalty of Rs 1,337.76 crore imposed by the CCI for exploiting its dominant position in the Android market. The penalty amount has been deposited in the Consolidated Fund of India within the 30-day deadline given by the NCLAT. The penalty was imposed in October 2022 and Google has complied with the CCI’s directives for Android earlier this year.

Developers can offer users an alternative billing system along with Google Play’s billing system when purchasing in-app digital content. Google has also been fined Rs 936.44 crore in a separate case for abusing its dominant position with respect to its Play Store policies.

The ADIF expressed deep concern over Google’s new Google Play payments policy and demanded that the new policies be put on hold, stating that Google charging a nearly 30 percent service fee on app developers will significantly impact the Indian startup ecosystem.
