The Lady Killer: India’s Biggest Box Office Disaster? Rs. 45 Cr Budget, But Earned Less Than Rs. 60K!
In a shocking turn of events, “The Lady Killer,” a 2023 crime thriller starring Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, has gone down as one of the biggest box office disasters in Indian cinema history.
Produced by T-Series with a reported budget of ₹45 crores, the film failed to attract audiences even on its opening day, selling only 293 tickets and collecting just ₹38,000 across India. Even after a full theatrical run, the total gross failed to touch ₹60,000, making it an unprecedented flop for a star-backed project.
What Went Wrong With The Lady Killer?
Directed by Ajay Bahl, The Lady Killer was marketed as a suspenseful crime thriller. However, despite its star cast and production scale, the film received little to no promotional push, had minimal buzz, and was released without much fanfare. The result? Audiences weren’t even aware that the movie had been released in theaters.
After the theatrical debacle, the producers tried selling the digital rights. But Netflix backed out of the deal, reportedly due to the film’s poor box office performance and lack of audience interest. With no other OTT platform willing to buy it, the film was eventually released on YouTube.
