The New Zealand government congratulates the national team on their success at the FIFA Women’s World Cup
The New Zealand government has officially congratulated the country’s national women’s football team, the Football Ferns, for their performances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Grant Robertson, the Sport and Recreation Minister, expressed his gratitude to the team for their achievements during the tournament. He praised them for inspiring the nation and showcasing skill and determination throughout their games.
Although they couldn’t achieve their goal of progressing to the round of 16, finishing third in Group A after a draw with Switzerland, Robertson emphasized the positive impact the Football Ferns have had on women’s football in the country. He noted that their performance has motivated and inspired thousands of girls and boys in New Zealand. The 2023 World Cup, co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia, began on July 20 and has provided a platform for women’s football to flourish and gain greater recognition in the region.
