Meta launches Android beta for Threads that reached 70 mn users
Threads, the Twitter rival owned by Meta (formerly Facebook), has announced the launch of a beta program for Android users. This program aims to provide early access to new features and bug fixes while collecting user data to improve the app. The invitation for the beta program highlights the need for users to accept potential instability in the earlier builds.
Interested Android users can sign up for the beta without having to wait. The company engineer emphasized that it has surpassed expectations with 70 million sign-ups, according to Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The CEO of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, explained that Threads was developed as an open and community-focused platform given the circumstances at the time.
Currently, Threads lack certain features such as direct messages, a “Following” feed, a full web version, and a chronological feed. The app is available in 100 countries on both iOS and Android, except in the European Union due to data privacy regulations.
