After a productive assignment at his first BBL, Tom Banton has re-signed with the Brisbane Heat for two more seasons, it was authenticated on Wednesday (February 5).
The young batsman scored 223 runs over seven games at a strike rate of 176.98. One of his three fifties was the second-fastest of all-time in BBL history, getting off only 16 balls versus Sydney Thunder during which he destroyed five back-to-back sixes.
coach Darren Lehmann stated that He believes anyone who saw Tom during his seven matches for the Heat in the BBL would admit that he is a special player and someone we think can play an important role for us over the next two years.
they wanted to move quickly and are very pleased that Tom has agreed to terms. He’s a good young lad and we think his cricket will only get better from here. He’s got his first IPL coming up and he’s in the English set-up, so we know how highly he is thought of around the world.
Banton though was only one of the few bright spots in a gloomy season for the Heat, who finished seventh on the table.
Lehmann also said that they certainly didn’t have the type of finish to our season that we would have hoped for, and we know our fans were as disappointed as we were. We’ve used some course since then following on what served and what we could develop on, and the most reliable ways to accomplish the purposes we have set individually.
Lehmann was also assured of taking AB de Villiers – who replaced Banton for the latter stages of the competition – to come back next season as well. AB was very confident about the possibilities of retorting to the Heat, so that is promising. We will keep operating on everything to see what the alternatives are ahead of BBL|10.
