Toyota, the Japanese automotive company, has admitted to another data exposure incident, this time affecting around 260,000 car owners. Last month, Toyota apologized for the exposure of partial data from approximately 2.15 million customers due to the misconfiguration of their cloud environment over a ten-year period.
The company has now discovered another case where data was potentially accessible externally due to a misconfiguration of its connected cloud service. company will notify affected customers separately and apologize for the incident. The company acknowledges that these incidents were caused by insufficient dissemination and enforcement of data handling rules and has implemented a system to monitor cloud configurations to prevent future occurrences.
They also confirmed that an unknown number of customers outside of Japan, particularly in Asia, had their personal information exposed between October 2016 and May 2023. The company has sent apologies and notifications to affected customers, informing them of the potential leak of in-vehicle terminal ID, chassis number, vehicle location information, and time.
