Excitement is growing as the countdown begins for the highly anticipated Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023. Hockey enthusiasts across Asia are eagerly awaiting the captivating matches, impressive goals, and intense rivalries that this prestigious tournament promises.

Scheduled to take place from August 3 to August 12, 2023, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Chennai last hosted an international hockey event in 2007, adding to the significance of this tournament.

Indian Men’s Hockey Team Captain Harmanpreet Singh expressed his excitement and optimism about the tournament, highlighting its significance for the team. He emphasized the team’s goal of making the nation proud by winning the gold medal. Chennai holds a special place for the team as it marks a return after their successful defense of the Asia Cup title in 2007.

India has been the most successful team in the Asian Champions Trophy, having won the title three times alongside Pakistan. They clinched the title in the inaugural edition in 2011 and again in 2016 after defeating Pakistan in the final. In the 2018 edition, India and Pakistan were declared joint winners due to rain affecting the summit clash in Muscat.

In the previous edition of the tournament in 2021, India secured the bronze medal by defeating Pakistan in the 3rd/4th place match.

It’s time for  India to test different combinations and adapt to the playing styles of their Asian counterparts ahead of the Asian Games. Currently, the team is focused on the ongoing Pro League, playing against world-class teams, which will aid their preparation for the tournament.
