Upasana Kamineni Konidela has taken on a new responsibility at Apollo Hospitals as Director – Projects. In her new role, she will work closely with Apollo’s leadership, clinical teams, and project partners to oversee the planning and execution of hospital projects across India.
Her responsibilities will cover new hospital facilities, expansions, and upgrades to existing centres. She will also focus on maintaining consistent design standards across patient areas, with particular attention to clear signage, effective wayfinding, easier navigation, and efficient clinical spaces. Creating a more comfortable environment for patients and their families will also be an important part of the approach.
Upasana will additionally support project processes, reporting, and coordination across different stages, from the initial design phase through the opening of facilities.
Apollo Hospitals is currently working on an expansion programme with an estimated total project cost of approximately Rs. 8,600 crore. This includes around Rs. 1,565 crore allocated towards listed brownfield expansion projects at existing facilities.
The broader programme combines capacity expansion in established healthcare markets with the development of new facilities in rapidly growing urban centres. Published plans identify projects across Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, along with cities such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore, Guwahati, and Ranchi, among others. The specific projects and budgets that will fall under Upasana’s mandate are expected to be confirmed by Apollo.
The expansion programme is focused on improving access to advanced healthcare while making hospital environments easier for patients and families to navigate. The new and expanded facilities are also expected to create opportunities for doctors, nurses, and other skilled healthcare professionals across different locations.
Apollo will continue its focus on connecting hospital-based treatment with prevention and early diagnosis. Through this approach, the healthcare group aims to encourage people to take a more active role in managing their health while expanding access to clinical care.
Speaking about her new responsibility, Upasana Kamineni Konidela highlighted the vision established by her grandfather, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, and the importance of carrying that philosophy into future hospital projects.
“My grandfather, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, built Apollo on the belief that world-class healthcare should be within reach of people in India. My responsibility is to carry that belief into the hospitals we build and the facilities we improve.

With its planned investments across multiple cities, Apollo’s expansion programme is set to focus on increasing healthcare capacity while improving the overall experience across its hospital network. Upasana’s new role will bring a greater focus on project planning, design, coordination, and execution as the group moves forward with its expansion plans.
