BJP national vice president Vasundhara Raje continued to serve in office
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its list of national office bearers, and three veteran leaders from Rajasthan have been retained in their earlier positions. Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been retained as national Vice President, Sunil Basal as a national General Secretary, and Dr. Alka Singh Gurjar as a national Secretary.
The announcement of the national team comes just before the election meeting of the party’s President, J.P. Nadda, in Jaipur. Nadda has been delegating tasks by holding meetings with Rajasthan leaders for the second time in 15 days.
The BJP’s strategy is to involve mass base leaders at the national level rather than confining them to a single state. The party aims to indicate that the elections in Rajasthan will be fought under collective leadership. However, the question of who will be given the responsibility of state election campaign committee chief remains to be seen.
There is an ongoing internal tussle in the Rajasthan BJP regarding the Chief Ministerial candidate, and to address this, the party has indicated that the elections will be fought collectively. Senior leaders have been instructed to avoid controversies ahead of the elections, and frequent visits of senior leaders are aimed at giving a message of unity for the polls.
The BJP is now awaiting the formation of election committees, and the committee that Vasundhara Raje will head is expected to clarify her role. There are discussions about making her the Chairman of the campaign committee or the main election committee. Supporters of Vasundhara Raje are eagerly awaiting the official announcement.
