Cricket international Wahab Riaz announces his retirement
Pakistani fast bowler Wahab Riaz has officially announced his retirement from international cricket after a successful 15-year career representing his country. However, he will continue to participate in franchise cricket.
During his international career, Wahab Riaz played 27 Test matches, 91 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 36 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for Pakistan. His last appearance for the national team was in 2020. Over the years, he secured 83 wickets in Test cricket with an average of 34.50, 120 wickets in ODIs at an average of 34.30, and 34 wickets in T20Is at an average of 28.55. In the most recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) season of 2023, he was a part of the Peshawar Zalmi team.
In recent times,Wahab Riaz has also been engaged in politics, holding the position of caretaker sports minister of the Punjab province starting in January of the same year. In a press statement, he shared his retirement plans that he had been discussing for the past two years. He expressed his satisfaction in serving his country and national team to the best of his abilities. He acknowledged the honor and privilege of representing Pakistan on the international stage.
