WhatsApp Bans 7.2M Suspicious Indian Accounts in July:
The leading messaging platform, boasting over 500 million users in India, received a remarkable 11,067 complaint reports in July. Out of these, 72 reports resulted in actions taken by WhatsApp.
The term “Accounts Actioned” signifies instances where the messaging app addressed reported issues, which could involve either banning an account or reinstating a previously banned one.
WhatsApp explains that this user safety report offers information on user complaints, the actions the App has taken in response to these complaints, and the proactive steps taken to prevent the misuse of our platform.
Furthermore, the company revealed that from July 1 to July 31, they received five orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee, all of which were duly complied with.
In a significant move aimed at empowering millions of Indian social media users, the Indian government recently established the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC). This committee is tasked with addressing user concerns related to content and other issues, a step towards bolstering digital regulations and addressing the influence of major tech companies.
As part of an effort to promote an open, secure, trustworthy, and accountable internet, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has introduced amendments designed to safeguard the rights of digital citizens.
