The Raja Saab: Maruthi Reveals Why Three Heroines Were Cast Opposite Prabhas
Prabhas has explored nearly every genre—from romance and action to fantasy and mythology—but horror remained untouched. That changes with The Raja Saab, a romantic horror fantasy directed by Maruthi. The film fulfills Prabhas’ long-time dream of starring in a horror movie.
At the recent teaser launch of The Raja Saab, director Maruthi shared a humorous and revealing anecdote about the casting process, particularly the decision to cast not one, but three heroines opposite Prabhas.
When Prabhas agreed to the story, Maruthi initially hesitated. His last release hadn’t performed well commercially, and he was unsure about handling a pan-India star. However, Prabhas gave him full confidence to move forward. Now, after multiple delays, The Raja Saab is set for a grand theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
The teaser, which dropped on June 16, was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Fans were thrilled with the visuals and tone, and the excitement has only intensified since the announcement that back-to-back updates will follow.
Maruthi recounted a funny interaction with Prabhas during casting. Prabhas quipped,
“In Salaar, the heroine barely appears. In Kalki 2898 AD, the female lead is in and out. In Adipurush, Sita Devi is barely around. Darling, there’s no one near me in these films—won’t you at least give me two heroines?”
To which Maruthi playfully responded:
“Two? I’ll give you three!”
True to his word, the film features Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar in the lead roles.
Netizens are loving this light-hearted take and expressing sympathy that Prabhas hasn’t had enough romantic screen time in recent years. But with The Raja Saab, that looks set to change.
