19 Airports to be constructed with Rs. 27,000 crores

Minister for Civil Aviation, Pusapati Ashok Gajapati Raju stated that the Central Government has agreed to the proposal of construction of 19 new airports in the nation at an estimated cost of Rs. 27,000 crores. The airports will be constructed in the PPP (Public – Private Partnership) Model. The airports that will be located in Bhogapuram (near Vishakhapatnam), Dagadarthi (Nellore), Mopa (Goa), Navi Mumbai and Sindhu Durg (Maharashtra), Hassan (Karnataka), Dholera (Gujarat) and Kannur (Kerala), will be constructed in the PPP model and respective state governments will also contribute their part in the construction.
Ashok Gajapati Raju stated that the Airline Industry is currently on a good swing is expected to improve in the coming few years. ‘In 2014, 395 aircrafts served the air travellers. This number has gone to 548 aircrafts currently. After Narendra Modi became the PM, 50 aircrafts are joining the airline industry every year,’ said Ashok Gajapati Raju.
The Cabinet Minister also drew comparisons between commuters travelling in Trains (AC Class) and Aircrafts. He stated that over 11 crore passengers travelled by air while 12 crore passengers travelled by Trains (AC Class).
