Pakistan authorities have seized seven boats and forty-three Indian Fishermen were arrested for apparently fishing illegally in the country’s territorial waters in the Arabian Sea, told the officials. The fishermen were arrested and handed over to the Docks police, a spokesman for Pakistan’s Maritime Security Force (PMSF) said.
While the Docks police are going to present them before the judicial magistrate who will be most likely send them on judicial remand to jail, told Commander Wajid Nawaz Chaudhary. Over the last one month, as many as 144 Indian fishermen were arrested for allegedly fishing illegally in Pakistani waters. Overall, the total arrests of Indian fisher had shot up to 400 in this year itself.
Chaudhary said speedboats and helicopters were used in the exercise when the Indian fishermen were spotted in our waters. Sadly, these fishermen from both the countries frequently get detained for illegal fishing in each other territorial waters since the Arabian Sea does not have a clearly defined marine border and the wooden boats lack the technology to avoid drifting away.
In the month of October, PMSA had arrested two batches of around 50 fishermen and again on October 29, had released 68 Indian fishermen from Malir jail as a goodwill gesture. As on date, a total of 438 fishermen were released in 12 days’ time in December 2016- January 2017 by authorities of Pakistan from Landhi and Mahir jails in Karachi.
