In the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz and Djokovic compete for the top spot in the world.
Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will face off in the Wimbledon final, where they will compete not only for the championship title but also for the coveted World No. 1 ranking. This match will mark their third ATP Head-to-Head meeting and will determine who takes the top spot in the ATP Rankings.
The battle for the World No. 1 position has been intense throughout the year, with Alcaraz and Djokovic exchanging the top spot six times in 2023. This is the highest number of changes in a season since 2018. Recently, Alcaraz reclaimed the No. 1 ranking after winning his first grass-court ATP Tour title at The Queen’s Club a few weeks ago.
Currently, the 20-year-old Alcaraz holds an 80-point lead over Djokovic in the ATP Live Rankings. This will be the second time he competes in a major final with the opportunity to secure the World No. 1 position. In the 2022 US Open championship match, Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud to reach the pinnacle of the tennis world for the first time.
On the other hand, if Djokovic wins his fifth consecutive Wimbledon title, he will extend his record-breaking reign as World No. 1 for a remarkable 390th week, starting on Monday.
Alcaraz has spent a total of 28 weeks at the World No. 1 ranking, placing him 16th on the all-time list. This surpasses tennis greats such as Mats Wilander, Andy Roddick, and Boris Becker.
