These days, movies that are made differently from routine, or has some controversial content, it automatically makes headlines. The censor board comes up with many restrictions on one side, and from the other end, some sections of society will route to agitations claiming that their sentiments are hurt. It is not just about the Padmavathi controversy.

Addressing the media, and talking on the subject of growing intolerance on the artists at the launch of the 15th Chennai International Film Festival, handsome Tamil actor Aravind Swamy expressed his displeasure and sadness. He said, that India is a country which has won its freedom through non-violent movement. This has inspired leaders worldwide, like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela. But looking at the present situation in our country, an expression of art, whether it is in cinema, painting or literature seems to arouse a violent and aggressive response from a section of society. They are automatically calling for a rework or ban or censorship.

He also had a straight question to the protestors “Is your belief so fragile that you are scared of art? Is it the reason why you are destroying it or disrupting it?” Further continuing his question, he said “Vatsayana compiled Kama Sutra and it is best known for the explicit description of sex and sexuality. Even after 2000 years of its compilation, we are still struggling to shoot or depict a kissing scene in Tamil Nadu for fear of censorship”.
