India’s Speedster Umesh Yadav will replace India’s premium bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad for the Freedom series against South Africa, beginning from the 2nd of October, the BCCI mentioned in a press release. According to the report released by the BCCI, Jasprit Bumrah has picked up a slight stress fracture in his lower back and will be out of the side against South Africa.
Yadav last appeared in a Test match against Australia in 2018. Bumrah had 13 wickets to his name in the two-Test matches against the West Indies, which also includes a hat-trick. Bumrah hasn’t played a test match on the home soil till date.
Umesh Yadav, who has been out of the Indian team set-up for while now even after his best performances against west indies in India, he will be featuring along with Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma in the Test squad.
Umesh Yadav has featured in 41 Test matches and picked 119 scalps at an average of 33.47. He also holds an economy of 3.58 in Test format and also has two Five wicket hauls to his name.
The freedom series will get underway between India and South Africa from 2nd October in Vishakapatnam. Pune and Ranchi will host the remaining tests respectively.
