The court also directed the petitioner, K Rajashekaran, a proprietor of GSR Vinmeen Creations, who opposed the film’s production, to approach the Madras High Court.

The Petitioner filed the complaint in the court stating that the title and story of the movie completely belong to him. He also resisted with the point that the title ‘Karikalan’ was already registered. ‘I registered ‘Karikalan’ title with South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce,’ stated petitioner.

Ranjith wrote the story: Vinod Kumar

Vinod Kumar, Executive Director of Wunderbar Films, responded that the story was written by Pa Ranjith. Vinod was acting on behalf of Rajinikanth, Pa Ranjth, and Wunderbar Films.

‘Ranjith himself wrote the story and wanted Rajinikanth in the lead role, a gang leader in Mumbai named karikalan,’ said Vinod Kumar. For us, the petitioner is a complete stranger and present suit is not maintainable. Both movie titles are different.

In petitioner’s own pleadings he disclosed that the title registration also lapsed. He had moreover no locus standi to seek any relief against the movie.
