Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged former Congress president Sonia Gandhi to consider contesting the Lok Sabha Elections from Telangana. Alongside Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu and I&PR Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, he visited Sonia Gandhi at her residence in Delhi on Monday to convey the party State unit’s resolution requesting her candidacy. Sonia Gandhi expressed her intention to decide at an appropriate time.
Implementation of Election Promises and State Initiatives
Revanth Reddy briefed Sonia Gandhi on the successful implementation of promises by the Telangana government, notably the fulfillment of two out of six guarantees made before the elections. These include free bus travel for women and an increase in the Rajiv Arogyashri limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, benefitting approximately 14 crore women. Additionally, he highlighted the upcoming initiatives such as the free power subsidy scheme and the Mahalakshmi scheme.
Focus on Social Welfare and Development
The Chief Minister emphasized his government’s commitment to social welfare and development initiatives. He announced plans for a BC Caste Census and sought support from NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bheri for the release of a grant amounting to Rs. 1800 crore to Telangana. He also urged cooperation for the Musi riverfront project and funding for drinking water supply. Furthermore, he discussed reforms in the medicine, health, and education sectors in the state.
