Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Launches Mumbai’s First Coastal Road Project

Date:

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the first phase of Mumbai’s Coastal Road project, connecting Worli to Marine Lines, marking a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development. Joined by Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, and other dignitaries, Shinde officially opened the south-bound lane, set to facilitate regular traffic flow starting the following day.

Constructed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the phase one project includes a twin-tunnel running beneath Malabar Hill. Scheduled for completion by May 2024, the toll-free Coastal Road aims to drastically reduce commute times, from around 60 minutes to just 10 minutes, offering commuters significant time and fuel savings.

Upon its full operation, the Coastal Road promises to revolutionize travel across Mumbai, with plans for expansion stretching from Worli to Dahisar in northwest Mumbai. Built with BMC resources, the project incorporates various eco-friendly features, including gardens, green belts, parking facilities, a new sea-wall and promenade, and other public amenities, aligning with the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development.

The inauguration of the Mumbai Coastal Road’s initial phase signals a promising future for the city’s transportation network, enhancing connectivity and convenience for residents while prioritizing environmental conservation and public well-being.
