Using CAG findings as evidence, Congress accuses government programs and initiatives of corruption
The Congress party has accused the central government of alleged irregularities in various government schemes and projects, as brought to light by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). The party has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address these concerns.
Speaking at a press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate stated that the CAG has pointed out seven instances of potential scams. She suggested that the Prime Minister and the government should figuratively “raid” the CAG to understand their questions and concerns about the government’s actions.
In a sarcastic tone aimed at the Prime Minister’s reputation for honesty, she mentioned that while he has cultivated an image of being incorruptible, the CAG’s report contradicts this image. She implied that this contradiction could be part of a larger international conspiracy.
Pointing to the alleged irregularities in projects like the Bharatmala Project and Dwarka Expressway, Shrinate highlighted that the costs of these projects have surged.
She also brought attention to irregularities flagged by the CAG in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Ayodhya project works, and various schemes and projects under the Union Rural Development Ministry.
Shrinate directed criticism at the Prime Minister, questioning why these alleged scams are happening under his administration and urging him to break his silence. She demanded that the government take action against the relevant ministers and address the misuse of funds for publicity in other schemes.
The CAG’s findings have drawn attention to discrepancies in several central government schemes and projects, with opposition parties raising allegations of corruption.
