“I’m just happy,” Dimitrov briefed. “The only thing I was telling myself was to stay in the match. Physically I was feeling pretty good. I was hitting some shots against him that were hard to hit.” Dimitrov said these sentences after the victory against Roger Federer. Dimitrov is about to play his first US Open semi-final to match the deepest Slam runs of his career from Wimbledon in 2014 and the 2017 Australian Open.

since 174th-ranked Jimmy Connors reached the 1991 quarter-finals seen so lowly a figure on the ATP ratings list reach the last four. Now Grigor Dimitrov has joined the list with a rank of 94th marking a spot in the semi-final.

Federer, a five-time US Open champion who has not won at Flushing Meadows since 2008, breezed through the first set in 29 minutes and looked to have resisted the threat until Dimitrov opened the fourth set with a break. Federer was refused on five break points in the 10th game of the 4th set and Dimitrov seized to power the 5th set.

Anything can happen on a particular day,” the Bulgarian briefed after he reached the semi-final and he finished the chat.

Federer left the court for a private medical attention in the timeout to treat his upper back near his neck.”This is Grigor’s moment, not my body’s moment,” Federer replied when he was asked about the impact of his injury on the match. Dimitrov’s next assignment is against Russia’s Medvedev in the US Open 2019 semi-final on Friday.
