ED summons the Bengali law minister yet again.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again issued a summons to Malay Ghatak, the Law Minister of West Bengal, to appear at their headquarters in New Delhi on June 26 for questioning regarding a significant coal smuggling case. Previously, on June 19, the Minister was summoned to the ED’s Delhi office but did not attend, citing prior commitments related to the upcoming panchayat polls in Bengal.
It is reported that the ED had issued a summons to Ghatak on June 6, granting him a 13-day window to prepare for his appearance in New Delhi. However, he evaded the notice by citing health concerns or claiming to have received short notice. In March of this year, the ED also issued a summons to Ghatak for an appearance on March 23, which he did not comply with.
Last year in September, the ED conducted searches at several residences belonging to Ghatak and his relatives in Asansol and Kolkata, resulting in prolonged questioning of the state Law Minister.
