The Election Commission has issued a notice to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during his campaign speeches on March 31.
In his speeches, Naidu purportedly referred to CM Jagan using offensive terms like “Monster,” “Animal,” and “Thief,” violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The notice, issued by the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh, followed a complaint filed by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and another individual.
Naidu has been given 48 hours to provide an explanation regarding the derogatory remarks made against CM Jagan Mohan Reddy. The Election Commission reviewed the speeches, provided in a pen drive, and found them prima facie violating provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.
The Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled for May 13, with vote counting set for June 4. In the 2014 Assembly elections, the TDP won with a majority of 102 seats, while the YSRCP secured 67 seats. However, in the 2019 Assembly elections, the YSRCP clinched a decisive victory with 151 seats, relegating the TDP to 23 seats.
The upcoming elections will significantly impact the political landscape of AP, with both TDP and YSRCP vying for dominance. Additionally, the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled in seven phases starting April 19, will play a crucial role in shaping the political direction of the country.
