England squad for the 2023 FIFA World Cup

In an announcement made by Sarina Wiegman, the head coach of England’s women’s football team, the squad for the 2023 FIFA World Cup has been revealed. The team, known as the Lionesses, will be led by Chelsea defender Millie Bright as the captain, as Leah Williamson is sidelined due to injury.

Among the 23 players named in the squad, Lucy Bronze and Alex Greenwood stand out as they are set to participate in their third consecutive World Cup. Both players were part of the squad that secured a bronze medal in the 2015 tournament.

Sarina Wiegman
huge belief in this squad

Sarina Wiegman, who hails from the Netherlands and took charge of Team England in 2021, expressed her confidence in the squad, stating, “I have huge belief in this squad, and we’re very fortunate to be selecting a fantastic group of players to travel to Australia.”

The upcoming World Cup is scheduled to be held from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand. England has been placed in Group D alongside Haiti, Denmark, and China. Wiegman acknowledged the tough challenges ahead, stating, “We know we will face tough challenges from strong teams, and we will have to be competitive from the first match on 22 July.” She also mentioned that the team will strive to be at their best throughout the tournament.

In the previous World Cup, held four years ago, Sarina Wiegman guided the Netherlands to the final, but they were defeated 2-0 by the United States.
