This comes ahead of the Internet giant’s annual “Made by Google” event, usually held in October, where it does announce its next-generation Pixel devices. Google as mentioned earlier as managed to Google sold twice as many devices in Q2.
As part of Google’s Q1 2019 earnings call in April, Google had rather had to acknowledge that they do not sell as many Pixel 3 phones as they had indeed hoped for. Rather than having growth in their third year of Pixel phone releases, Q1 indicated lower year-on-year sales, which is indeed a wrong-direction type of trend.
For Q2, Google has indeed a much more positive message to share around Pixel sales and it is also likely that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL have been in May. The arrival of those combined with wider distribution to of course more carrier and retail partners certainly have proved to be a boon.

Now, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. For one, new phone introductions always do mean a boost in sales, so since Google does not release a new phone in Q2 of last year, it is not all surprising that this year would indeed show a big boost. Additionally, Google does not exactly break out the number of phones as they sold in Q2 2018 as compared to this quarter. All that is known is that they did sell more and for Google, that appears to be an achievement.
