Governor Rejects Dasoju and Kurra’s MLC Nominations:

Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan, the Governor, has declined the nominations of Dr. Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana, both affiliated with the BRS, as MLCs under Tamilisai ‘s quota, as requested by the state government.

In separate communications to the Chief Secretary, the Governor stated that both nominees do not meet the requirements for becoming MLCs under the Tamilisai’s quota, as outlined in Article 171(5) of the Constitution. Tamilisai’s letters, dated September 19, were made public on Monday.

Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed her strong recommendation to the Cabinet and the Chief Minister to refrain from appointing politically aligned individuals to nominated positions under Article 171(5) of the Indian Constitution. She emphasized that there are several highly regarded non-political figures in the state who meet the prerequisites specified in Article 171(5).

Disregarding these individuals and appointing politically affiliated persons to these nominated positions would undermine the merits and contributions of those with special knowledge and experience in the relevant fields outlined in Article 171(5). Such nominations could render Article 171(5) ineffective and deprive genuinely qualified individuals of opportunities.
