Hollywood director, Oscar Award winner James Cameroon needs no introduction. He is one of the most acclaimed directors’ in the history of filmmaking. He is popularly known for his films as ‘Terminator’ Series, ‘Titanic’ (1997) and ‘Avatar’ (2011). Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the all-time classic ‘Titanic’, the director spoke at a media gathering.
Cameroon said, ‘I know it is very common for the couple to get reunited at the end of the film. That’s the usual norm and the happy-go-ending way. But I made a bold decision 20 years back with my film Titanic. I felt Jack needs to die in the film. Titanic is linked with ‘parting and death’. If I choose to give the film a routine ending, I don’t think it would have had a great impact. After the audience saw Jack dying in the cold Atlantic waters, they were shocked. They were not able to digest what they saw on the screen. Looking back 20 years, I feel that I made a right decision.’
He further went on to say, ‘Jack dying to save Rose, and everything is a part of the art of Filmmaking. That is how it is to be made. No regrets.’
