IMAX Corporation Denies Partnership With Asian Cinemas in Hyderabad
In a surprising twist that has stirred Hyderabad’s moviegoing community, IMAX Corporation has officially denied any partnership with Asian Cinemas for launching an IMAX screen in the city.
This clarification comes after Asian Suniel, head of the Asian Cinema Group, hinted in a recent promotional interview for their upcoming film Kuberaa that a 70-foot-plus IMAX screen was in the pipeline, planned near Hakimpet, Hyderabad.
Fan Frenzy Triggered by False Alarm
Following Suniel’s statement, the news spread rapidly across social media platforms, with thousands of fans celebrating what seemed like the long-awaited return of IMAX to Hyderabad. The city had lost its iconic Prasads IMAX in 2014, and ever since, movie lovers have been clamoring for a high-end cinematic experience.
Hyderabad, known for its passionate film audience and record-breaking theatrical runs, appeared ready to welcome IMAX technology back into its entertainment landscape. However, IMAX’s official denial has poured cold water on those hopes, for now.
Still a Chance in the Future?
Despite this setback, the excitement highlights the strong demand for premium large-format screens in Hyderabad. Whether Asian Cinemas will proceed with a high-end screen under a different branding or whether IMAX could reconsider a return to the city remains to be seen.
For now, Hyderabad continues to wait.
