The likelihood of temperatures in Iraq exceeding 50 degrees
The weather observatory has issued a forecast indicating that Iraq will experience an extremely hot heat wave in the upcoming weeks. The temperatures are expected to exceed 50 degrees Celsius, with a peak of 52 degrees Celsius during the last week of July and the first week of August, as stated by the Green Iraqi Observatory.
Notably, the highest temperature ever recorded was 53.6 degrees Celsius in July 2016 in the southern province of Basra.
In response to such extreme heat conditions, the law mandates that when temperatures reach 50 degrees Celsius, the government grants holidays to its institutions, with the exception of security forces and medical services. This measure is taken to ensure the well-being and safety of the public during the scorching heat wave.
