Everyone knows the role of Media and News channels in Indian politics. The kind of sensation they create is humongous. No wonder that the Election Commission of India pointed out that, media channels can influence the outcome of elections.
The influence of Media channels in Telugu states is more in comparison to any other state. The state media is known for taking sides
During the 2014 AP Assembly Elections, apart from TV9, ETV and ABN channels, rest all channels supported YS Jagan. Post the elections too, channels like NTV have extended their support to YS Jagan. After Chandrababu gave a stern warning, NTV has toned down a bit. But given the upcoming election fever within the next couple of months, it looks like TDP and Chandrababu are worried.
So as to overcome the negative talk from channels like NTV, Chandrababu decided to lure them. His recent announcement on allotting vast lands in Amaravati for media channels is the best example. Chandrababu also stated that subsidies would be given to set up media channels. And shockingly, the whole procedure of allocating lands to Media houses will be completed by the end of 2018.
This is the first time a CM is allotting lands for Media houses. This is clearly seen as a move to lure the media houses and journalists, knowing that they can influence the election result.
