Kantara Chapter 1 Makers Reportedly Demand ₹100 Cr for Telugu Rights – Risky or Hype?
One of the most-anticipated pan-India releases of 2025 is Kantara Chapter 1, the much-awaited prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara. Following the nationwide success of the original, the makers have mounted this prequel on a grand scale with a massive budget and stellar cast. The film is locked for a worldwide release on October 2, 2025.
However, in recent days, reports have emerged that the makers are quoting a whopping ₹100 crores for the Telugu rights. This news has sparked heated discussions across social media. While some argue that the demand reflects the strong brand value created by Kantara, others dismiss it as an unrealistic PR-driven hype tactic.
Industry observers point out that although Kantara was a massive hit, expecting such a huge figure for a dubbed version—without any established Telugu star in the cast—could be a high-risk gamble for buyers.
For comparison, the rights of Coolie—featuring Superstar Rajinikanth, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and also starring Nagarjuna in a key role—were sold for around ₹50 crores. Given that Coolie was backed by star power and still fetched half of what is being asked for Kantara Chapter 1, the ₹100 crore demand seems inflated to many.
Whether this valuation is justified or merely hype-building remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Kantara Chapter 1 has already become one of the most talked-about films of the year even before its release.
