Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar stated that 80,000 EVMs and the same number of VVPATs (Voter Verified Audit Trails) are being used in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections. ‘We have arranged over 58,000 polling booths for the upcoming state assembly elections in Karnataka.
600 polling booths will be run by women, and 10 polling booths by differently abled people. 28 polling booths with have the authentic design. If anyone is found campaigning near the polling booths, they will be arrested, and strict action will be taken against them. We have seized more than Rs 70 crores in cash, and liquor worth Rs 32 crores so far in the state. We are completely prepared for the elections’, said Sanjiv Kumar.
Elections are scheduled for the 225-member Karnataka State Assembly. The BJP and Congress are fighting to form the government by winning the full majority. Polling will take place on May 12th, and the results will be announced on May 15th.
