The Tamil blockbuster Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, is enjoying a sensational theatrical run, having collected over Rs. 147 crore worldwide in its opening weekend. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film has also struck a strong chord with audiences in the Telugu states.
Even as the film surges at the box office, it found itself in the middle of a controversy over a satirical dialogue that referenced legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja and his well-known stance on copyright issues. The scene sparked criticism on social media, with fans alleging that the dialogue mocked the veteran musician.
Responding swiftly, the production banner Dream Warrior Pictures released an official statement affirming their deep respect for Ilaiyaraaja. They clarified that there was no intention to offend and confirmed that the disputed dialogue would be removed or altered in upcoming versions of the film.
On a parallel note, Ilaiyaraaja remains firmly in demand and has now signed on to compose music for director Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming tenth feature, adding yet another prestigious chapter to his iconic career.
