Keerthy Suresh’s latest film, Dorothy, has failed to make a notable impact at the Telugu box office following its release in the Telugu states. The independent period drama, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, initially attracted attention after premiering at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. The film also received appreciation from several celebrities even before its theatrical release.
In Tamil Nadu, Dorothy reportedly had a slow opening weekend but managed to maintain a steady performance during the weekdays as positive word-of-mouth gradually spread among audiences. However, the film’s Telugu version, which arrived in theatres yesterday, has struggled to attract moviegoers.
One of the major challenges appears to be limited awareness among Telugu audiences. Additionally, the film’s subject and storytelling style cater to a relatively niche audience, which may have affected its reach in the region. Consequently, Dorothy recorded negligible collections on its opening day across the Telugu states, according to the available trade reports.
The key question now is whether the film can gain momentum in the Telugu market through audience recommendations, similar to the response it reportedly received in Tamil Nadu. Its performance over the coming days will determine whether it can find a wider audience.
Produced jointly by Sikhya Entertainment and Jio Studios, Dorothy also features Sananth and Rishikanth in important roles. Despite the initial box-office setback in Telugu, the film’s future prospects will depend on audience reception and word-of-mouth in the days ahead.
